Heather Rouen awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM)
As part of the Kings Birthday 2025 Honours List, our club member Heather Rouen was awarded The Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to a sport through a range of roles.
The OAM stands for Medal of the Order of Australia. It is one of the four levels of the Order of Australia, the highest recognition for outstanding achievement and service in the Australian honours system.
The award is in recognition of Heather’s contribution across administration, coaching, mentoring, participation and volunteering in many sports over the last 50 years.
Heather is a valued Campbelltown life member and dedicated Masters Swimming Official and we could not be prouder of her for this achievement and well deserved recognition.
Here are just some of Heather’s achievements and contributions to sport:
- A three time Australian representative in international Water Polo
- A seven time NSW Water Polo representative
- Captain of Sydney University Women’s Water Polo team for numerous years
- Macarthur Sportsperson of the Year 1984
- Sydney South West Region boys and girls Water Polo coach
- Sydney South West Regional Convenor for water polo and diving
- Australian Masters Swimming and Water Polo competitor, oficial and administrator
- Volunteer Sydney Olympics- National Olympic Assistant for Guam
- Sydney Olympic Torch Bearer-community representative
- 2003 World Cup Rugby Union volunteer- public relations assistant to headquarters
- 2010 FIFA World Cup live site volunteer Sydney
- School Sports Official at state, region, zone and school levels for swimming, cross country and athletics
- Official at Little Athletics, coach at boys soccer and coach, manager and umpire at netball
As well as, of course, various roles including Club Captain and Secretary of our club, since 1991.
