About
Campbelltown AUSSI Masters Swimming Club, is a member of Masters Swimming New South Wales (MSNSW) and Masters Swimming Australia (MSA).
Masters Swimming is for swimmers who are 18 years or older. So don’t be scared off by the term masters.
One of the main club goals is to be inclusive of swimmers of all levels of swimming ability, from the complete beginner to the highly competitive. The club has a program that is put together each year to help give members direction from week to week at club meets. BUT you don’t have to follow the program, it is only there as a guide (especially for the more competitive members).
The club was started by Barry Jarvis and John Hunter in 1980. They heard about AUSSI Masters Swimming, and decided to establish a local club. They competed against each other on the club’s inaugural day. They then started to hold races over 50m, 100m and 200m. Gradually membership grew and they published the results in the local newspaper. This is how others became aware and interested in the club.
Members who are in the club after 20 years or more are still competing. We still have some of the original members in our club. Barry Jarvis is a life member of the club. Helga Duncan, who was President for 9 years, is also a life member and still competes, as well as Russell McLeod, Heather Rouen, Steven Clough and Barbara Briggs.
Every year our members feature well in the National and State Top Ten. In past years some have reached the World Top Ten.
The club has an active social side besides our swimming agenda and this all helps to create a harmonious club.
